Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Backing Following PSV Loss
Arne Slot conceded that it was natural for concerns to be asked about his position following a further heavy loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in twelve games, marking the team's worst run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got a lot of backing from the top,” the coach commented.
“It would be nice to turn it around and get a victory obviously but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He added, “I accept my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the team officials, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal exchanges I feel the confidence. However I've not talked to them since this defeat so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Problems and Player Reaction
The manager expressed regret over recurring weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the words.”
He added, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a spell like this with performances this poor.”
Jones stated, “However we still have that badge on our shirts. And until it is taken away, we will always fight.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad back to its rightful place, prove again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the top club in the world.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
