Indeed, it's Full of Nonsense, Extreme Hosting and Self-Help Jargon. Yet I Truly Adore Meghan's Festive Episode.

No matter the season, it's constantly hunting season for criticism on the Duchess of Sussex's TV show, With Love, Meghan. Critics, from seasoned journalists to online pundits, have seldom found such common ground as when enthusiastically shredding the program's initial installments to shreds. The common opinion seemed to be a greater royal outrage had seldom occurred than the now-infamous pretzel-bagging incident.

Now, as a festive rebel, she has returned with a new offering with a "Holiday Celebration" (aka a holiday episode). But this time, the dynamic has changed. The familiar ingredients viewers are accustomed to – vague self-help platitudes, overzealous entertaining – are still present, but within the context of a yuletide episode, the purpose becomes clear. The elements have slid into place; it's a perfect snow storm.

Now, Meghan resembles the oddball family member at most festive family gatherings – dispensing unsolicited, unnecessary advice, and contributing the occasional strange exclamation. ("I love spinach!" … "A tradition has to have a beginning." … "A tree is part of my memory and love of the holiday season.") She's a bit of a character, but her presence is familiar and oddly reassuring. And she appears pleased; she's inflicting a bit of damage.

She understands her every micro expression, utterance and gaze will be dissected and criticised, but still appears relaxed and serenely untroubled.

It could be this is the first occasion in history where that clichéd phrase – "Ignore them, they're just jealous" – could actually be true. Because, you know what?, each element in Meghan's Holiday Celebration is delightful. Granted, it's all cringily ultra-extra, nonsense and flamboyant – but is that not just what the holiday season is all about? And the advice she gives might be absurd, but the life she leads seems authentically beautifully curated.

Anything she attempts, she pulls off with style. Her cooking looks scrumptious, the holiday arrangement she makes is stunning, her gifts are almost too pretty to unwrap. Nothing is average or visually unappealing – including the way she ties her kitchen garment is creative and fashionable. She doesn't throw a dish in the microwave, it "has a moment", and she creases wrapping paper like an paper-folding expert. She also seems to be thoroughly enjoying herself from start to finish. How could any hate-watcher not be won over, bursting with holiday spirit and left with a deep longing for personalized Christmas crackers or a crudites platter where greens is organized in the likeness of a wreath?

Meghan used to pretend for a living, obviously, but even so, after the degree of examination she has faced since she became involved with Prince Harry, the love child of acting royalty would have difficulty behaving this authentically. Her refusal to alter or even soften her persona, despite it being so relentlessly, globally mocked, is strangely reassuring. In our uncertain world, here is one thing we can depend on: Meghan will remain herself, no matter what. We will always know our position with her.

If you're not yet convinced by her message, a point that will surely come as a comfort: you aren't required to. We don't have mandatory conscription in this country, and if there were, it would be doubtful to include watching With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration. If, on the other hand, you willingly check it out and are gripped with envy about her idyllic Christmas, all is not lost either. Whether you're a royal or a everyday person, no kid completely grasps the time and energy their mother puts in in December. So you can find comfort by picturing Archie and Lilibet's faces when they reveal a calligraphy note that says, 'I love you because you are brave,' from a homemade Advent calendar, in place of a chocolate.
