Members of an Italian family of burglars who took over £1.2 million worth of items, among them from former Newcastle United forward Isak, have been mandated to pay back just £1 per person.

Siblings Valentino and Giacomo, their female sibling Jela and her son Charlie travelled to the northeastern of the UK to raid three houses in spring 2024.

The foursome were jailed for between a decade or less in May 2025.

At a proceeds of crime hearing at Newcastle Crown Court, Jela and the brothers Nikolov were ordered to pay back £1 per person while Charlie Jovanovic must hand over over a thousand pounds.

Details of the Burglaries

The judge was told the gang arrived by ferry in the UK on March 27, 2024 and employed a campervan as their "headquarters", which they stationed at Scotch Corner and Durham service service stations while utilizing another car to scout out targets and carry out burglaries.

On 31 March they stole more than £1m of goods such as high-end fashion, handbags, jewelry and a CBE medal from a residence on a street in Jesmond, while the owners were on holiday.

The next evening, the crew entered a home on a private road in Whitburn, and stole designer handbags, valuables and footwear valued at more than one hundred thousand pounds.

After scouting out Newcastle United's training ground for two days, they then acted at the residence of Swedish player Alexander Isak in Darras Hall on 4 April, taking ten thousand pounds in cash, sixty-eight thousand pounds worth of jewelry and the player's one hundred twenty thousand pound luxury car.

The gang, who were described by the prosecution as professional touring thieves, wore hand coverings and face coverings, turned their mobile devices on silent as they neared their objectives and strapped a license plate, which had been taken from a garage in Chester-le-Street, on to their car with elastic bands.

They were apprehended in the Birmingham on 13 April.

Court Hearings and Rulings

Valentino had denied the burglary plot but was found guilty by the court, while his three relations had all submitted guilty pleas to the identical accusation.

At the proceeds of crime session, prosecutor the prosecution said each of the burglars had profited from their offenses to the amount of £1,266,285.93, which was determined by what the affected parties said they had had stolen.

But Charlie was the sole individual found to have any funds that could be "recovered", specifically over a thousand pounds which had already been seized by police, the court was informed, with two weeks to be spent in prison if he defaulted.

The remaining members had no money or assets so were ordered to make a token amount of £1 each, with one week in incarceration the result if the sum was not paid.

The judge Spragg said if they were discovered with assets in the future, "such as driving around in Italy in a sports car or possessing a property", the prosecution could initiate new proceedings to "recover the amount due".
