Line of Duty Announced for 7th Season on BBC
The acclaimed crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th season, announced by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-episode season created by the show's creator starts production in Northern Ireland in the coming months, according to the network.
The actress expressed excitement about the comeback, stating she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Her co-star added, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."
The previous season wrapped up in 2021 with a finale that drew in over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only came this week.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
The seventh season begins with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to production details.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings continue tasked to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio are assigned their "most sensitive case to date."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer known for busts of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to become a offender.
Yet, this investigation might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the shadows, the teaser hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator said: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had countless fans track the ups and downs of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be returning for a new installment."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in the UK is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor called being part of the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Not only the show's success but the colleagues I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "It goes without saying I'm so excited the show is returning! Eager to work with the creator, Compston and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "As we count down the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together soon."
"Pleased with the news and looking forward to those unexpected twists and turns."
Series Legacy
Line of Duty launched in 2012 and evolved into one of the most popular TV dramas of the last decade, featuring guest stars such as Thandiwe Newton.
The BBC haven't revealed exactly the new season will hit screens.
The finale of season six brought the long-running storyline about the search for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and the creative team said at the moment there were no plans for additional seasons.
Nevertheless, the corporation announced on this week that a seventh series is now in development.
