The network's Premier New Show of This Year Secures a Major Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

In October of last year, Adult Swim saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the channel launched a completely new animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. In an era often marked by cynicism, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the world of the Campbell family. The show follows three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Executive Acclaim

Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and championed its peculiarly charming appeal.

"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about following this endearing family go about their daily lives.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to evolve comedy past its long-running layer of irony. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

What Comes Next

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well be part of that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to experience the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
