The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.
Departure from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering momentum.
Their recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional business:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
