Unbowed Wilfried Nancy shows no fear of dismissal but supporters display wrath following loss.
Wilfried Nancy insisted he did not fear the sack, claiming, “We are really close to changing our fortunes,” in the wake of moving dangerously close to being fired with a heavy defeat by Rangers.
Another Capitulation Leads to Derby Loss
The Hoops had led the visitors at half-time but a collapse after the break enabled Danny Röhl’s team to move level on points with the current league title holders. The French coach, who was brought in from Columbus Crew, has now been in charge for six losses in his last eight matches.
“There is unity at the club,” insisted the manager.
Pressed on his own future, he responded: “It’s not on my mind. I think about working out methods to aid my players to be good on details.
Supporters' Anger On Display
The fans voiced their fury – aimed at the board and manager – by protesting at Parkhead. The board are reportedly likely to bring back the interim manager, who steered the club during a caretaker period last year, if the Frenchman were sacked.
“The outcomes [that leads to pressure]. So this is the reality for the moment. But when I say that’s how it is, it doesn’t mean that I am a defeatist guy. Not at all. My point is we are really close, extremely close to change the narrative.”
Nancy’s Persistent Belief
The coach continues to cling to the fact his team show good levels for a half at a time. In fact, if not for poor finishing they would have been more than 1-0 up. “There were positives aside from the fact that we haven’t scored a second goal,” he said. “I know that we lost, but I have also to be objective.
“The performance we had at stages was exceptionally high. This is the reality. And I would not say that if it was untrue. Therefore, regarding outcomes, I mentioned we've seen this before. For that reason I believe we are nearly there to a shift in fortunes. But for the moment: small things.”
“I saw plenty of positives that we did, like today again. But now it’s about sustaining it. My narrative would be different if it was not the case. Therefore I firmly believe the team can to turn things around.”
Opposition Reaction Stance
Rangers manager refused to contemplate a title charge in spite of what appeared to be a landmark win. “We take it game by game, so we can really build up momentum,” he said. “The faith in the team is outstanding.”
