Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Officers report they were notified late on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then found multiple other smeared automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report initial examinations indicate the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; authorities are not yet aware of any injuries in association with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the residents for information.
An important official stated the attack rendered him stunned and required to be addressed quickly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he posted on social media, recalling the death of nine people by a shooter aiming at residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
