Watkins Maintains the Edge - But Calvert-Lewin Might Yet Secure the World Cup

Just one goal in his initial ten English top division games this season had plenty of wondering if Dominic Calvert-Lewin's peak were behind him.

But, a just four weeks on, he has become the most discussed striker in England after netting seven goals in six back-to-back games.

His six-match scoring sequence puts him in exclusive company as just the 11th English player to score in six or more consecutive Premier League fixtures.

To frame that statistic, even England captain Harry Kane never managed a run of this length - his top is two individual five-match streaks.

And the only English striker to better Calvert-Lewin in recent years is Jamie Vardy, who went on an eight-game scoring streak for Leicester City in 2019.

What has made Calvert-Lewin so hard to stop in this period? A latest opponent's manager explained it succinctly.
